Canterbury and the Environment

Canterbury Windows and Doors is committed to upholding the responsibilities and obligations for the conservation and protection of the environment throughout all parts of our production process:

Timber Selection

Canterbury recognises its moral responsibilities in providing a supply of products from renewable sources and accept our responsibilities in using re-growth timber.
We will only use suppliers who conform to international standards such as the International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO) guidelines, in an attempt to ensure that where possible, timber sourced is in accordance with local regulations governing the harvesting of timber.

Production

Our manufacturing facilities and practices have been developed to reduce the amount of waste by:
-  Minimising rough sawn sizes to increase log recovery volumes.
-  Using split jambs to increase timber recovery volumes and to reduce the amount of sawdust.
-  All rejected components are recycled into other smaller components.

Recycling

Our manufacturing facilities and practices have also been developed to optimise the amount of recycling.

PROTIM™ Treatment

Canterbury Windows and Doors generally purchases Light Organic Solvent Preservative (LOSP) treated timber and components. We also have our own LOSP (PROTIM™) treatment plant on site. This enables us to monitor the system and keep the amount of preservative used to the levels required by Australian Standards.
The treatment plant has been inspected and approved by the EPA to ensure the area complies with regulations protecting the environment from pollution from either daily operation or failure of equipment.
